When you should NOT use this tool

You need selectable textCompression rebuilds pages as images. If the recipient must copy, search, or screen-read the text, send the original instead.

How do I compress a PDF to a specific size like 200 KB?

Pick the ceiling above (or type a custom one), then drop your PDF. The tool searches for the highest quality that still lands under your ceiling with a safety margin, entirely in your browser — the file is never uploaded.

Is 1 MB the same as 1,000 KB or 1,024 KB here?

We treat 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes — the stricter, decimal reading that upload portals use. A file that passes our decimal ceiling also passes any binary-interpreted limit, so it can't bounce on a technicality.

Is my file really never uploaded?

Yes. The compressor runs in your browser tab. Disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works. The meter on every tool page reads 0 B of your document uploaded because that is literally what happens.

Will the text still be selectable after compressing?

No — to hit hard byte ceilings reliably, pages are rebuilt as high-quality images. Text stays sharp and readable but is no longer selectable. Keep your original for archiving; upload the compressed copy.

What happens if my target isn't reachable?

We stop at the smallest readable version, show you its size, and let you decide. We never silently ship an unreadable file to make a number.
